The Role
Component Engineering Consultant at BAES. This position is at the request of Naval Reactors and the UK Ministry of Defense for an assignment at BAE Systems (BAES) in Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom. The initial contract period will be one year, with the possibility of annual renewals thereafter.
This embedded consultant will be based at BAES within Secondary Propulsion Engineering to support the UK's submarine program. The activity will support further development/sustainment of UK arrangement and design capabilities to meet the needs of the SSNA program. The objective is to reduce current Build Schedule and increase platform availability through-life versus previous class.
The embedded consultant will interface with personnel across the program supporting the development of the MAT/MAIT organization and the policies and processes that reinforce it in delivery of the SSNA program goals. Further support will be in providing detailed scoping of US/UK engagements via consultation, reach back VTCs and workshops identified within the SSNA US/UK plan.
Responsibilities
* Experience with Trials/Testing
* Experience with mechanical/fluid systems (ideally propulsion related)
* Understand trials specifications/processes and how it relates to meeting system/equipment requirements
* Fault finding
* Work in a high-paced trials environment (potentially as part of a shift pattern) supporting the wider engineering team
Qualifications
Must Have
* Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
* Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
* Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
* Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Nice to Have
* Ten plus years of applicable experience (prefer submarine)
* Familiar with VCS Program Build and Test
* Familiarity with current engineering techniques associated with the Design/Build/Sustain process
* Understanding of ITAR and the 1958 Mutual Defense Agreement requirements
* Continuous Improvement experience as a Black Belt or Green Belt preferred but not required
* Experience with formal critiques of shipyard incidents
