Job overview We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as Therapy Clinical Support Worker on the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) in Wycombe General Hospital, High Wycombe. The job role involves working with both the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams on the ward. This is a full-time role based on HASU, where patients with new strokes are admitted for assessment, care, early rehabilitation and discharge planning. This role will suit someone who is motivated, flexible and hard-working, and keen to support patients to achieve their potential in rehabilitation. This role is part of a well-established and supportive therapy team. Experience of working in healthcare is desirable. Having good communication and team-working skills is essential. The post involves weekend working as part of the therapy weekend service. Main duties of the job To work as part of the stroke unit therapy team based in Wycombe Hospital. To work with patients individually and alongside qualified staff, supporting patients with their rehabilitation and helping them to regain movement and function following stroke. This may involve a range of activities, for example, carrying out exercise programs, using the hoist to sit patients out, assisting with personal care, carrying out mobility practice and balance exercises, completing simple cognitive and mood screens, and supporting patients with practice of functional tasks such as washing and dressing. To record accurate notes and statistics, and to complete admin tasks as required by the team, for example, ordering equipment and collating statistics for audit. Person specification EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING Essential criteria Good level of education to GCSE standard. (at least 3 subjects) Level 3 GCSE or equivalent in English Desirable criteria NVQ level I, II or III in Health Care Manual Handling, Life Saving or First Aid qualification EXPERIENCE Essential criteria Able to accept and undertake responsibility for designated tasks 6 months experience within a customer care (face to face) environment. Desirable criteria Previous work as a Therapy Assistant Previous work in health care environment SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE Essential criteria Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English) Demonstrate good organisational skills. Demonstrate insight into the importance of maintaining a safe working environment Ability to learn / ability to self initiate learning (evidence within the last 2 years) Able to work within a team setting Able to undertake manual handling tasks Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area required by this post Desirable criteria Awareness of health & safety issues and policies Able to complete tasks set, follow instructions PPE requirements: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust requires all colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with our infection prevention and control procedures.
