What you’ll be doing This is a senior, specialist role working closely with the Head of People Relations & Case Management, senior leaders and the wider People function to provide expert employment law advice and ensure people ‑ related decisions and organisational change are legally compliant, pragmatic and aligned to business priorities. The role plays a key part in minimising legal, financial and reputational risk while supporting delivery of strategic objectives. Acting as a subject matter expert, the role advises on complex and high ‑ risk employee relations matters, including restructures, TUPE, senior exits, contractual change and employment litigation, providing oversight of Employment Tribunal claims and ACAS early conciliation in partnership with internal and external legal teams. The role supports and shapes major people projects and change initiatives, assessing and communicating employment law risk across all stages to enable informed decision ‑ making. Working collaboratively across the People function, it ensures a consistent, joined ‑ up approach to people relations, while also contributing to investigations, trade union matters and robust governance. With a strong capability ‑ building focus, the role supports the development of policies, processes and training, ensuring legislative changes are understood, risks are identified early and lessons learned are embedded across the organisation. What you’ll bring This role would suit a legally qualified employment law specialist, ideally with in-house experience, who is confident operating within a large, complex and unionised environment. You’ll bring a strong track record of advising on high ‑ risk and sensitive employee relations matters, with the judgement and confidence to provide clear, pragmatic guidance in situations. You’ll be proactive, resilient and adaptable, able to operate effectively in a fast ‑ paced environment and respond calmly to emerging risks or urgent issues. A commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with legislative and case law developments is essential, alongside a desire to build capability across the organisation through coaching, guidance and knowledge sharing.
