An exciting opportunity to join the resuscitation team as a band 6 resuscitation practitioner. The successful candidate must have experience in an acute speciality and an interest in resuscitation training. The job will include attending emergency calls, teaching and administrative work including local and national audit.

Main duties of the job

To help ensure that all staff working for Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust receive a high level of resuscitation training appropriate to their expected responsibilities. Help to ensure that resuscitation attempts at the Trust are performed according to current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines wherever possible. To promote the collection of clinical data following a cardiac arrest and ensure all relevant data is accurately entered into resuscitation databases.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1) To assist the Senior Resuscitation Officer in the provision of deteriorating patient andresuscitation training to Trust staff, including adult, paediatric and neonatal life support
courses.
2) To be key in organising and delivering Resuscitation Council UK Immediate adult andpaediatric life support courses (ILS/PILS)
2) Support in collection of data following cardiac arrest and the collation of this data. Tosupport wards and departments in recording/presenting this information as per the PSIRF
process. Attending and presenting at PSIRP meetings where appropriate
3) Ensure that all training performed is recorded according to Trust policies and liaising with
the Learning and Education Teams to achieve compliance targets.
4) Attend cardiac arrest calls when other duties permit and perform as an active member of the team - providing teaching, support and advice as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist the senior Resuscitation Practitioner in the organisation and provision of mandatory resuscitation including adult, paediatric and newborn training to all clinical staff within the hospital. To attend and support emergency calls where able, provide debriefs where appropriate and review these emergencies to add to the reporting system.

Support in the organising and delivery of advanced national courses including those of the Resuscitation Council UK and the Royal College of Surgeons.

To be an active member of the Resuscitation and Deteriorating Patient Committee, contributing to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines.

Person specification

Qualifications

* NMC or HCPC registered
* Immediate Life Support Instructor Course
* Paediatric Immediate Life Support Course Provider
* Advanced Life Support Course Provider
* Newborn Life Support Course Provider
* Advanced Life Support Course Instructor

Experience

* Demonstrate experience of continuing professional and practice development
* Demonstrate experience of managing teams and difficult situations
* Demonstrate clinical experience of managing acute adult emergencies
* Demonstrate clinical experience of resuscitation of the adult
* Demonstrate ability to provide feedback to all levels of staff

Knowledge

* Demonstrate knowledge of the ability to apply evidence based practice
* Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of Duty of Candour in relation to resuscitation
* Demonstrate knowledge of the PSIRF framework
* Knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and policies
* Demonstrate knowledge of current Treatment Escalation Plans/DNACPR and the ReSPECT policy/process l
* Knowledge of current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines

Personal Skills

* Ability to work autonomously to meet priorities and deadlines
* Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations
* Analyse problems and implement effective outcome
* IT skill including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
* Demonstrate effective interprofessional working

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
