About the Job
This is an exciting opportunity to join IB’s Assessment Development and Delivery’s (ADD) leadership team as a Senior Manager for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) eAssessments. We recognise that applicants may not be familiar with all details of current workstreams and projects. We have support in place to ensure your success and accept a period of learning and adjustment will be required. This job suits a person with high emotional intelligence, strong people skills and a vision on leadership. It operates in a dynamic department, at a high pace throughout the calendar year. The two examination sessions are highly focused peak periods, and the months in between are dedicated to assessment creation and co-developing world leading educational programmes and assessment.
Reporting to the Head of Assessment Development and Delivery (ADD), the Senior Manager MYP is a key leadership role within the team and has full accountability for delivering high quality assessment materials and the subject management aspects of each examination session for the Middle Years Programme (MYP).
ADD also supports departments across IB with innovation initiatives, curriculum developments and school engagement of all education programmes. The Senior Managers are responsible for decisions that directly affect the outcome of the IB assessments and are key to maintaining the IB’s Global reputation for assessment quality, academic integrity, fairness and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
This role sits within the ADD extended leadership team. There are seven ADD Senior Managers who, together, share the management of assessment development and delivery of the IB Programmes and are responsible and accountable for:
1. Lead subject management and exam publishing aspects of the ADD team in a valid, reliable and timely manner, compliant with IB policies and regulatory conditions.
2. Oversee the development of high quality IB assessments that champion universal design.
3. Mitigate operational risk and provide contingency plan to ensure the teams are fully prepared for each session.
4. Ensure assessment production workflows adhere to agreed milestones.
5. Ensure the marking of candidate work is fair and consistent.
6. Ensure appropriate assessment information is communicated to school and examiners.
7. Respond to queries and concerns that relate to the assessment service and liaise across the education office.
8. Collaborate with the IB Educator Network (IBEN) team in the recruitment, induction/training of assessment authors and senior examiners.
9. Advocate the IB educational philosophy.
10. Coach, support and develop Subject Managers by identifying personal and professional development areas and track progress through talent and performance management.
11. Maintain close working relationship with the Senior Curriculum Manager MYP in The Hague.
12. Establish MYP team objectives and distribute responsibility for delivery of targets and objectives.
13. Lead or contribute to projects which have organisation wide impact across the IB programmes.
14. Facilitate the implementation of key organisational/assessment changes as an ambassador for change and process improvement.
15. Adhere to best practice principles when working on confidential data.
16. Instill a positive work culture through employing a distributed leadership model.
About You
17. An advanced degree such as a Master's, or an equivalent professional qualification, or higher.
18. Substantial assessment experience as a teacher or in a position of responsibility in an assessment environment,. an examining body or equivalent.
19. Substantial leadership experience.
20. Proven track record of successful large-scale people management.
21. Proven experience in business change in an education or related context.
22. Ability to demonstrate intellectual leadership through sharing knowledge of relevant developments in learning, assessment and qualification frameworks.
23. Experience in budgeting and resource allocation.
24. Ability to take responsibility openly for complex and difficult decisions and deliver them to internal and external international groups and individuals in an effective and sensitive way.
25. Resilient and capable of working under pressure and responding to changing priorities and deadlines.
26. Good statistical understanding and capability.
27. Knowledge of the IB Middle Years Programme, IB Programmes or being an IB alumni is a plus.
Other Special Requirements
28. Occasional international travel required (. to represent the Assessment Development and Delivery team at external conferences).
29. Occasional weekend working required.
