Posted: 8 September
Offer description

Are you a passionate PMLD SEND educator looking to reconnect with the heart of why you chose this profession? Do you thrive in environments where every small step forward is celebrated as a milestone, and where creating a nurturing atmosphere is just as important as delivering education? If so, this may be the role that inspires you.

We are seeking a Specialist PMLD SEND Teacher to work one-to-one with a young person (aged 14) with complex PMLD needs, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team of therapists and health professionals. This is an opportunity to make a profound impact by bringing creativity, patience, and heartfelt commitment to a highly personalised learning journey.

About the Young Person

* Complex PMLD with sensory processing challenges
* Visually and hearing impaired
* Non-verbal; communicates using PECS and Makaton
* Tube-fed with additional health considerations (immune system compromised – staff wear masks or face shields)
* A quick and confident mover indoors, wheelchair-assisted outside to reduce sensory overload and ensure safety
* Thrives in safe, familiar environments where she can explore
* Loves music, movement, and dancing – a truly joyful personality

Support Network

You’ll collaborate with a strong multi-disciplinary team, including:

* Occupational Therapist
* Physiotherapist
* Speech & Language Therapist (AAC focus)
* Music Therapist
* Visual and Hearing Specialist
* Specialist Nurse

The Role

* 25 teaching hours per week, plus 3 hours PPA

* Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 14:00

* Education split: approximately 40% structured learning / 60% outdoor and sensory-based activities

* Work closely with the family and therapy team to ensure an integrated, holistic approach

* Create a safe, engaging, and nurturing atmosphere that values both education and wellbeing

About You

We are looking for someone who:

* Has a passion for working with young people with PMLD and would consider it a privilege to teach and guide this young person.

* Experience teaching young people with PMLD and complex SEND needs

* Understands the importance of sensory-based learning and communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC)

* Can balance structure with flexibility, adapting to the child’s needs each day

* Brings genuine warmth, patience, and creativity to their practice

* Is confident working collaboratively with therapists, families, and other professionals

* Is motivated by creating an environment where joy, learning, and progress come together

Why This Role?

This is more than teaching – it’s about helping to shape an environment where a young person can feel safe, inspired, and valued. For the right teacher, this is a chance to go back to the roots of what makes education meaningful: connection, creativity, and care.

Location: Southend-on-Sea, SS0 0RS
Start Date: September 2025 (flexibility considered)

If you have the passion, skill, and heart to make a difference in this unique role, we’d love to hear from you. 01925 906500 or email your CV to claire@specialistsendgroup.co.uk
