Permanent contract from 01.09.2025

Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint an experienced HLTA to develop and deliver resources, interventions and programmes to support students’ literacy (reading) and EAL proficiency.

The successful candidate will develop and deliver resources, interventions and programmes to support students’ reading, writing and oracy skills. As HLTA for literacy and EAL, they will deliver intensive support for newly arrived EAL students at KS3 and KS4, as well as intervention for students whose reading ability (SAS score) is below the expected level for their age. They will also promote equality of opportunity for every student in order that they achieve their fullest potential. We currently have over 60 additional languages in our community, and have recently achieved our School of Sanctuary status.

You will work in close liaison with colleagues, other agencies and parents to create co-ordinated approaches to supporting individual students, monitoring their effectiveness and supporting colleagues in their implementation. The school is well-equipped with a range of successful resources, strategies, platforms and processes and we welcome applications from candidates who can contribute to this already successful team. This is a great first-level teaching support post: many of our previous successful applicants have gone on to gain teaching qualifications and further qualifications in teaching literacy and delivering EAL intervention.
