Recovery Programme Practitioner (Y Bont) - HMP Swansea

Location: Swansea

Salary : £24,000 per annum

Vacancy Type: Full-time

Closing date: 26 May 2026

About The Role

Help Change Lives. Build Recovery. Break the Cycle.

We’re looking for a passionate and motivated Recovery Programme (Y Bont) Practitioner to join our award‑winning team delivering Y Bont, a therapeutic 12‑week abstinence‑based recovery programme based on the Incentivised Substance Free Living (ISFL) wing at HMP Swansea.

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), primarily based at HMP Swansea, with occasional travel to other sites across South Wales. This is a unique opportunity to support men in custody who are ready to make lasting change, achieve abstinence, and build a positive future beyond prison.

Responsibilities

* Deliver structured 1:1 and group interventions focused on substance misuse recovery
* Co‑facilitate the Y Bont Programme across multiple cohorts each year
* Manage a caseload, assessments, care plans and progress reviews
* Use trauma‑informed, harm reduction and abstinence‑based approaches tailored to individual needs
* Work closely with prison staff, healthcare, probation, housing, employment and community partners
* Support release planning and continuity of care into the community
* Monitor outcomes, maintain accurate records and contribute to service targets
* Help organise graduation ceremonies and family engagement events

Qualifications

* Experience supporting people affected by substance misuse, recovery or criminal justice services
* Strong communication and group facilitation skills
* Experience managing caseloads and keeping accurate records
* A collaborative approach and ability to build strong partnerships
* Ability to speak Welsh would be advantageous but not essential
* Existing valid prison clearance would also be advantageous but is not essential

Benefits

* Flexible working
* Training and development opportunities
* Simply Health Cashback Scheme (optional)
* Season Ticket Loan Scheme
* Cycle to work scheme
* Crisis Loan Scheme
* Electric Car Scheme
* 3 x Wellbeing Days (pro rata for part‑time employees)
* Access to Blue Light Card
* 25 days (rising to 30 with length of service) annual leave plus Bank Holidays
* Contributory Pension Scheme – Employer matched contributions of up to 6% in the first two years’ service and up to 9% thereafter
* Death in Service Payment (2x annual salary)
* Critical Illness Insurance (subject to qualifying criteria)

All prison‑based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of both checks. If you have lived overseas within the last 5 years, checks may take longer.

We actively value lived experience and welcome applications from people with experience of recovery and/or the criminal justice system.
