Learning Support Assistant

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to support pupil development, SEN support and classroom activities in a primary education setting. This role involves behaviour management, learning support and working closely with teaching staff.

Salary

£24,796 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £16,857 per annum + Benefits

Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire


Job Type

Full-Time, Temporary Contract (1 Academic year with potential to extend)


Working Hours

30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:45am to 3:15pm, term time only (38 weeks).


Job Overview

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to join a growing primary school environment, supporting pupils across Early Years, KS1 or KS2.

As a Learning Support Assistant you will work closely with teachers to deliver curriculum support, assist with classroom management and provide SEN support through small group and one-to-one learning.

The Learning Support Assistant role requires a calm, adaptable and proactive individual who can support behaviour management and help pupils remain engaged and motivated.

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to pupil progress, learning development and inclusive education within a supportive school community.


Duties

* Support Learning Activities: Assist teachers in delivering lesson plans and classroom activities
* Provide One-to-One Support: Work with individual pupils, including those with SEN needs
* Facilitate Small Group Work: Support targeted learning groups to improve pupil progress
* Promote Engagement: Keep pupils motivated, focused and on task during lessons
* Manage Behaviour: Support behaviour management in line with school policies
* Assist with Assessments: Help monitor and review pupil progress and learning outcomes
* Supervise Pupils: Provide support during break times and lunchtime activities
* Support Emotional Needs: Build positive relationships and respond to pupil wellbeing needs
* Maintain Safeguarding Standards: Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
* Collaborate with Staff: Work effectively as part of a team and liaise with teachers and external agencies


Candidate Requirements

* Previous experience working with children in an education or childcare setting
* Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional or communication needs
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to support classroom management and behaviour strategies
* A flexible and adaptable approach to working in different classroom environments
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality requirements
* A calm, patient and supportive approach to working with children
* Ability to organise and prioritise tasks within a structured timetable
* Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training
