People Operations Team Leader – Permanent, full time. Hybrid working available: 3 days onsite. Location: Essex. Salary: circa £43,000 per annum.
Are you a passionate people leader looking to make a meaningful impact in the housing industry? Our client is seeking a dynamic People Operations Team Leader to guide and develop a dedicated team, delivering a high‑quality, customer‑focused HR service across the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing People Operations team, ensuring efficient and timely handling of all people‑related queries.
* Act as an escalation point and provide high‑quality second‑line HR advice and guidance to managers and colleagues.
* Manage a caseload of employment and people queries while enabling and promoting manager and colleague self‑service.
* Work collaboratively with the Payroll Operations Manager and payroll team to ensure accurate, compliant and timely pay changes.
* Monitor team performance, KPIs and service delivery metrics, driving continuous improvement and an excellent employee experience.
* Ensure compliance with HR policies, employment legislation, audit requirements and people risk controls (e.g. Right to Work, DBS).
* Build strong, trusted relationships with business managers and People team colleagues to support effective people management.
Candidate Requirements
* Demonstrable experience in a people/HR operations role ideally within the Public Sector or fast paced environment.
* CIPD Level 5 or demonstrable equivalent practical experience in an HR or People Operations role.
* Strong working knowledge of HR best practice and employment law.
* Proven people leadership, supervision or mentoring experience with a focus on performance and development.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to advise and challenge constructively.
* Ability to plan, prioritise and manage competing demands in a fast‑paced operational environment.
* Proficient in the use of HR systems, databases and case or ticket management systems to drive efficiency and insight.
