Intermediate Quantity Surveyor
GEDON Executive is seeking an ambitious Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join a respected Boutique Consultancy firm in Birmingham, UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to take on a challenging role with a diverse project portfolio and gain high-quality experience in pre-contract cost control and Employer's Agent duties.
As an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in supporting senior staff while gaining significant exposure across the entire project lifecycle. You will focus heavily on client-side advisory, cost planning, and contract administration across a varied range of sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Pre-Contract Cost Management: Prepare detailed cost plans, feasibility studies, and elemental cost estimates for initial project stages.
* Tender & Procurement: Draft tender documentation, manage the tender process, conduct tender analysis, and advise clients on appropriate procurement routes.
* Employer's Agent / Contract Administration: Support senior staff in delivering Employer's Agent services, administering construction contracts (primarily JCT), managing design team appointments, and chairing key meetings.
* Post-Contract Duties: Assist with interim valuations, change control, and the preparation and negotiation of final accounts.
* Client Liaison: Support effective communication with clients, design teams, and contractors across a portfolio including Healthcare, Commercial, Education, and Residential projects.
* Reporting: Prepare accurate cost reports and commercial statements for client review.
What You'll Bring
* Proven Experience: Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a UK-based Consultancy.
* Key Expertise: Direct experience and competence in Pre-Contract Cost Planning and providing Employer's Agent / Contract Administration services is essential.
* Sector Exposure: Experience with projects across diverse sectors such as Healthcare, Commercial, Education, or Residential.
* Commercial Acumen: Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Contractual Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
* Qualifications: A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics. Progress towards achieving Chartered status (MRICS) is essential, and achieving the accreditation is highly desirable.
