Lead Teacher Role Description

Context and Purpose of the Role
The Lead Teacher is responsible for overseeing the care and development of a specified group of children in our nursery. The ideal candidate will be a nurturing, patient, and attentive individual who is passionate about supporting the earliest stages of child development.
This is a key role in our leadership team working with the management and teaching teams.

General responsibilities
* Ensure all children receive equal opportunities regardless of their background, including challenging any instances of discrimination.
* Support the wellbeing and development of all children in your care.
* Implement and oversee specialised care plans for children with additional needs, working towards an inclusive environment.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and stimulating learning environment that adheres to all health and safety regulations.
* Keep accurate and confidential records of each child's development, daily care routines, and any concerns.
* Ensure all staff in the nursery follow proper hygiene practices, including nappy changing procedures, sterilisation of equipment, and food safety guidelines.
* Lead by example in reflective practice, using observations and assessments to inform planning and improve the quality of care.
* Adhere to all nursery policies and procedures, ensuring your team does the same.
* Work closely with the management team to ensure the smooth running of the rooms.
* Attend relevant training sessions and staff meetings to enhance your professional development and contribute to the nursery's continuous improvement.
* Take appropriate action in any situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the children, parents, and colleagues.
* Oversee the key person system in the room(s), ensuring each child's developmental needs are met and effectively communicated to parents and other staff members.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
* Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare
* Previous experience working with children in a nursery setting
* In-depth knowledge of the EYFS
* Understanding of child development theories and current best practices in infant care
* Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and inclusion policies relevant to early years settings
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Strong leadership and team management abilities
* Patience, empathy, and a nurturing disposition
* Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
* Good organisational and time management skills
* Proficiency in observing, assessing, and planning for individual childrens' needs
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform the following tasks, with or without reasonable adjustments:
* Lifting and carrying babies and toddlers
* Bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
* Standing for extended periods
* Changing nappies and assisting with toileting
* Preparing bottles and feeding babies
