Job Description

Music Instructor, Guitar Instructor 0.2FTE (Fixed Term until 16 August 2026) - PKC12852
£35,190 - £46,773 (pro-rata)
Youth Music Initiative (YMI), Based at North Inch Community Campus, Perth

We are seeking a passionate and engaging guitar tutor to deliver high-quality music lessons in primary schools across Perth and Kinross as part of the Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI).

This role involves inspiring young learners through fun, inclusive and progressive guitar tuition that supports the aims of Curriculum for Excellence and YMI’s commitment to providing access to music education for all.

Key Responsibilities:

* Deliver weekly guitar sessions in selected primary schools (typically P4–P7).
* Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons tailored to group needs and abilities.
* Foster creativity, confidence, and enjoyment of music in young people.
* Work in collaboration with school staff and other YMI tutors where appropriate.
* Monitor and record pupil progress; contribute to any required evaluation and reporting for the YMI programme.
* Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
* Transport own instruments and teaching resources to and from schools as needed.

This post is funded through Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative and is subject to ongoing funding.


Requirements

* Proficiency in guitar and strong musical knowledge, educated to degree level in music.
* Experience teaching children, ideally in a school or community setting.
* Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
* Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
* PVG Scheme membership (or willingness to join prior to start).
* Access to transport to travel between schools.
* You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
* Experience delivering YMI programmes or other funded music initiatives.
* Familiarity with the Curriculum for Excellence and inclusive music education approaches.
* Ability to adapt teaching methods for learners with additional support needs.
* 6 days public holiday and an additional discretionary day
