Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, marketing, engieering, and sales to translate customer insights into actionable product strategies and innovative product concepts. Lead ideation sessions and workshop activities to generate creative solutions and concepts that address identified customer needs. Develop proof-of-concept prototypes, experimental models and test plans to validate feasibility and efficacy of proposed solutions. Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to assess the feasibility of implementing new technologies and concepts into existing product lines or developing new product offerings. Stays abreast of industry developments, technological advancements, and competitive product landscape to identify opportunities for product innovation and maintain a competitive edge. Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure seamless transition from concept development to product development and industrialisation, providing necessary technical guidance and support throughout the process. Document research findings, design specifications, and project progress in a clear and concise manner, and effectively communicate insights and recommendations to key stakeholders. Develop robust business cases to present opportunities to the organization that align with our companies vision, mission, and values. This includes inputs conducting thorough market analysis, assessing potential risks and benefits, estimating financial projections, and outlining implementation strategies. Project manage all aspects of the reasearch and developmet process, including discovery research, developing product innovative solutions/concepts, creating robust business cases, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation and industrialisation of projects. Develop and maintain collaborative networks and partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry experts to support research initiatives and leverage external expertise and resources. Actively engage with academic researchers, attend conferences, seminars, and workshops to stay abreast of the latest developments in relevant sectors, and identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. Stays current with available innovation funding opportunities, grants, and government initiatives within the plumbing and water sector. Proactively seek out and apply for funding to support research and development projects, and effectively manage grant applications and reporting requirements. Champion a customer-centric approach to the product innovation by incorporating customer feedback, and user research into business cases and decision-making processes. EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) preferred. Proven experience in conducting customer discovery, and customer needs analysis within a product development or innovation context. Strong technical background with expertise in conceptualizing, designing, and prototyping mechanical or electro-mechanical systems. Experience in the use of CAD software is required. Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated experience in building and nurturing collaborative partnerships with academic institutions and research organizations. Strong networking and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with external stakeholders.
