Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine

This role is for a JCF grade level doctor and is eligible for full registration with the GMC.

Essential Criteria

  • At least two years' post-graduation clinical experience in the UK
  • At least four months' experience in emergency medicine in the UK
  • Up-to-date certification in ALS

Desirable Criteria

  • MRCEM
  • Experience in medicine, anaesthetics, paediatrics, surgery and/or orthopaedics in substantive roles in the NHS

Main Duties

Salisbury ED currently has a spacious 3‑beded Resus, 14‑beded Majors, paediatric assessment area and a newly built minors department. The department covers a large geographic area, seeing over 48,000 new patients per year, with paediatric patients making up approximately 25% of the total. Salisbury is a designated Trauma Unit linked to UHS as our nearest MTC and has extensive military population coverage. The ED is supported by an experienced cohort of nurses, senior sisters, and 3 ENPs covering the minors area. Overnight surgical work is covered by a pooled junior doctor rota supported by critical care outreach; anaesthetics, medicine, O&G and paediatrics all have registrar presence overnight. Salisbury ED is recognised as one of the top performing EDs in the region and is benchmarked in the top 10 nationally against a number of clinical and non‑clinical standards.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • ATLS course passed within last 5 years
  • EPALS/APLS
  • MRCEM

Experience

  • Evidence of wide experience and a high level of competence in Emergency Medicine, including management of paediatrics and trauma and ability to work effectively in majors, minors and resuscitation areas
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems: demonstrates clear, logical thinking and an analytical approach
  • Experience in managing risk and knowing when to seek help, prioritising clinical need
  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
  • Experience in medicine, anaesthetics, paediatrics, surgery and/or orthopaedics in substantive roles in the NHS

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary and Working Conditions

An initial fixed‑term appointment for 6 months, with potential to extend. The salary range is £54,499 to £67,325 per annum (pro rata if part‑time). Flexible and part‑time working arrangements are supported. Benefits include a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), a generous pension scheme, on‑site car parking (fee applies), leisure centre, day nursery and holiday play scheme.
