Division of Surgery - Fracture & Orthopaedic Unit - RGH
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Department Manager in the Fracture & Orthopaedic Unit in the Royal Gwent Hospital. We are seeking an experienced Band 5 nurse that is passionate, forward thinking and looking to develop their clinical and managerial skills.
The post requires professional, motivated and reliable individuals with a passion for providing high quality patient care. You will support Band 5 nurses, student nurses and Band 2 HCSWs in their professional development and assist with the management of the Unit on a day-to-day basis by supporting and acting on behalf of the Manager.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Manager with day-to-day management of the Unit and service development.
* Demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing; work within codes of practice and professional guidelines.
* Collaborate with other disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
* Promote evidence-based practice and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert.
* Assess patients’ nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to ensure effective patient care.
* Ensure Fundamentals of Care principles are incorporated into daily practice to deliver high-quality service for patients and clients.
* Involve patients and carers/relatives in planning and delivery of care; maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients/families, including those with special needs or communication barriers.
* Assess patients for discharge following medical review and initiate discharge planning; liaise with multidisciplinary teams for complex discharge planning.
* Administer medications (e.g., intramuscular/subcutaneous) in accordance with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Policy.
* Ensure safe preparation for and escort to/from theatre, radiology and other investigations.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* Welsh language ability is desirable for this post.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experienced Band 5 nurse with a passion for clinical excellence and development of managerial skills.
* Ability to demonstrate high level nursing assessment and clinical skills; professional, motivated and reliable.
* Capability to support and develop Band 5 nurses, student nurses and Band 2 HCSWs.
* Willingness to work in conjunction with other disciplines to deliver patient care.
