Health and Safety Manager, Rail
Location: South Wales and South West region travel as well as working from home
Salary: Competitive
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday
We have a great opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager to join our award-winning HSQE team and support our Infrastructure division, especially focused on our Rail business. This key role will be instrumental in delivering health, safety, quality, and environmental excellence across the infrastructure team while aligning with the company's strategic objectives and legal compliance targets.
What you will do
The role will be field-based, and some national travel may be required depending on business needs. Specific responsibilities include:
* Protecting people at work within our Infrastructure division by ensuring injury and ill health prevention through behavioral safety improvements, policy reviews, and safe systems of work.
* Managing internal audits and site inspections, assessing sites against our IMS requirements and external standards, and administering divisional non-conformances.
* Advising senior management on compliance and conformance issues.
* Leading accident and incident investigations and reporting.
* Participating in HSQE risk assessments at corporate and project levels, advising on delivery methods.
* Liaising with Infrastructure clients to ensure collaborative delivery of safe working practices.
* Delivering behavioral safety training programs in conjunction with the Learning and Development team.
What we're looking for
We welcome applications from highly experienced H&S professionals with solid experience in the Infrastructure sector, particularly in Rail and Highways projects. You should have a calm, tactful approach, confident in liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and foster strong relationships. Experience in conducting inspections, audits, reviewing safe working methods, and staff competency is essential. Experience in Arboriculture or Landscaping industries is a plus.
You must hold either Certified or Chartered IOSH status and have experience with accident investigations. Essential skills and competencies include:
* Proven HSQE management experience within rail and infrastructure sectors.
* Strong knowledge of UK rail safety regulations and vegetation management practices.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel.
* Resilience and ability to cope in a busy team environment.
* Ability to work strategically and on-site when needed.
* Passion for making a difference in Health and Safety.
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective relationships.
* Problem-solving skills and practical solution identification.
