We are now offering an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Research Nurse to join our Sunderland service. This is a split role, combining frontline clinical practice with involvement in a nationally significant research study: 3 days per week supporting delivery of the In-BOAT clinical trial 2 days per week working as a Substance Misuse Nurse across the Sunderland service This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute directly to both evidence generation and clinical practice, helping to shape how substance misuse services are delivered now and in the future. Where: Sunderland Full Time Hours: 37.5 per week *Full Time Salary Range : £37,184.90- £43,384.61 Fixed Term Role : 30 months *Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours. Research Nurse – In-BOAT Clinical Trial Alongside your clinical role, you will support delivery of the In-BOAT randomised controlled trial, working under the supervision of the Clinical and Research Teams and in collaboration with: The Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials (CHaRT) University of Stirling University of Aberdeen Local contracted drug treatment services The study focuses on adults receiving Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid dependence who also have a co-existing benzodiazepine use disorder. It compares a tailored diazepam maintenance intervention with standard tapering care, evaluating which approach is most effective in reducing illicit (“street”) benzodiazepine use. You will contribute to: Participant recruitment, consent and engagement Delivery of trial-related clinical and psychosocial interventions Collection of high-quality research data in line with UK Clinical Trials Regulations, ICH-GCP, and study protocols Safe collection, processing and handling of biological samples Ongoing liaison with research teams, investigators, pharmacies and GPs Ensuring participant safety, dignity and high standards of care across both trial arms This role places you at the forefront of research-informed practice, directly contributing to the national evidence base for substance misuse treatment. Working in Sunderland In Sunderland, Change Grow Live works in close partnership with health services, community pharmacies, public health teams and local partners to deliver integrated, evidence-based drug and alcohol treatment.
