Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB are seeking a notable nurse leader to take on the role as Senior Infection prevention and control nurse. This is an exciting opportunity as we prepare to develop a Primary as well as a Secondary care service within CTMUHB.
This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of infection prevention and control principles. The nurse will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
Main duties of the job
Leadership and Management
Policy development - work closely with the Head of Infection Control and Prevention Nursing and with senior staff to contribute, implement and review Infection Control and Prevention strategy, policies and protocols.
Education and Training - participate in the development and delivery of training and education programs to all BIPCTM members.
Surveillance and Reporting - providing reports to the Infection Control and Prevention meeting.
Clinical Advice - providing specialist clinical advice on Infection Control and Prevention that directly relates to patients.
Collaboration - working in conjunction with other departments and external agencies to promote infection prevention and control practices.

Job responsibilities
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Mange the Infection prevention & control team ensuring supervision, mentorship and assessment via the development review process.
Ensure safe systems and processes are in place for infection control to identify and minimise risks with regard to IPC; in relation to clinical practice, influencing clinical managers and patient safety.
Collaborate in the investigation of complaints, accident reports and untoward incidents and give highly specialist advice ensuring the implementation of recommendations of action.
Receive and impart highly sensitive and complex information regarding IPC on a regular basis to others within and outside of the Health Board, including Welsh Government.
Communicate and demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity when communicating highly sensitive information to patients/ clients, visitors/ relatives and colleagues with regards to transmissible infections, overcoming any barriers to understanding.
Work with the IPCT to review the strategic, surveillance, educational and audit plans and participate in the development and implementation of agreed action plans and programmes.
Person Specification
Qualifications and or knowledge
* Professional Registration
* Degree qualification, achieved or working towards. Specialist qualification in infection prevention and control at degree level / masters level equivalent
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Clear understanding and specialist knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control.
* National strategy and legislation knowledge applied operationally
* Assist in the development of Infection Prevention and Control.
* Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
* Teaching qualification
Experience
* Significant experience in infection prevention and control as a band 6
* Teaching experience
* Working with a wide range of disciplines and grades of staff
* Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
* Be able to read Welsh
* Experience and understanding of national guidance and strategic frameworks
Aptitude and Abilities
* Advanced decision-making abilities.
* Ability to analyse highly complex information and identify actions.
* Ability to lead and influence team and others.
* Communication skills with partner agencies
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Excellent personal organisation and time management - use own initiative
* Be able to write Welsh /Ability to speak Welsh
