We’re BirdLife International, the only global Partnership conserving birds and all life on our planet. We exist to give one voice to nature, and to unite and strengthen conservation across borders.

We are looking for a Red List Assessor on a part‑time basis to join our Science Division, to contribute to BirdLife’s vital work on evaluating and documenting the extinction risk of the world’s birds.

How you will do this

* By working closely with other members of BirdLife’s Red List team, you will apply the IUCN Red List Criteria and Guidelines to assess the extinction risk of bird species.
* By collating, analysing and evaluating information from a wide variety of sources, liaising with species experts within and beyond the BirdLife Partnership.
* By synthesising this information in clear, concise written summaries in the Red List database, and in topics proposing changes to the status of relevant species.

Ideally you will have:

* A degree in a relevant biological or environmental subject, and preferably GIS skills.
* A good understanding, and preferably practical experience, of the IUCN Red List.
* Excellent English; other languages beneficial, especially Spanish and Portuguese.
* Knowledge and experience of birds and conservation issues, preferably in the tropics.
* A scientific approach and proven ability to work in a team and achieve shared goals.

Some of our benefits

* We are able to offer a hybrid model of working on‑site and from home/remote for most roles, which helps to ensure a flexible work‑life balance.
* A chance to work in the award‑winning David Attenborough Building, which brings together much of the Cambridge‑based conservation community on a conservation campus.
* A generous pension scheme, with up to 12% company contribution.
* Holiday starting at 25 days excluding Bank Holidays, increasing for every year of service to a maximum of 28 days.
* Full access to LinkedIn Learning with more than 13,000 high‑quality, on‑demand courses.
* Employee Assistance Programme, including access to Health Assured online health portal.

BirdLife values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Find out more about our Diversity statement.

We provide reasonable adjustments to support all applicants with diverse needs.

Please note: under the UK Government criteria this role will not be eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

Interviews: Interviews will be held during the week of 10 August.
