This is a full time, permanent role working Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant within Clinical Genetics, you will assist in the handling and processing of samples received in the Clinical Genetics laboratory including Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), referrals and DNA extraction.
Job Responsibilities
1. Receipt and handling of samples, ensure that samples are labelled accurately.
2. Perform downstream processing of clinical samples.
3. Ensure that all work is done in compliance with ISO 15189 requirements.
4. Follow standard operating procedure (SOPs) and instructions.
5. Operate liquid handling robots, PCR thermal cyclers and NGS machines.
6. Keeping records up to date.
Qualifications
7. Qualified to degree level in biosciences or related field.
8. Understanding of general molecular biology techniques (including PCR, RNA/DNA extraction, quantification).
9. Knowledge of genetics and genomics.
10. Computer literate.
11. Attention to detail.
12. Experience of working with a range of biological samples.
13. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
14. Strong organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
