Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

This new, fixed-term post available immediately to cover a period of maternity leave. Please note that the FTE of this role changes part way through the appointment. The position is only available full-time (1.0 FTE) until 27 February 2026 and from 01 March 2026 until 23 October 2026, the position will continue on a part-time basis at 0.4 FTE.

We are happy to consider the 0.4 FTE element of this role as a separate appointment from March 2026 onwards if you are only interested in the full-time portion of the role. Please confirm your preference in your application.

This role sits in the Academy of Nursing within the Department of Health and Care Professions in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The role

We are looking to appoint a full time (36.5 hours per week) Lecturer in Nursing as a maternity cover for the period October 2025 – March 2026. From March 2026 – October the hours will reduce to 0.4fte (14.6 hours per week). This role will contribute to teaching predominantly in Nursing, within the Department of Health and Care Professions. You will join a thriving academic community at an important stage of the development of our portfolio and contribute to all aspects of the student journey, including recruitment, module leadership, session design and delivery, assessment, quality assurance and student support.

About you

* Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent experience, of the core knowledge relating to this academic area in order to teach and support learning on relevant modules;
* Have experience in using a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
* Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
* Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
* Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
