Our Role
This Senior Finance Analyst - Retail role will primarily be responsible for providing business partnering and analytical support to the Retail channel.
The Senior Finance Analyst - Retail will own the month-end processes for retail, including the preparation and posting of journals. Ensuring all numbers in the retail P&L are correctly accounted for each month, with all material variances to the budget/forecast understood. The role involves working closely with the retail operations team to manage the cost base throughout the year.
A significant part of this role involves producing relevant weekly and monthly business reports and developing tools and templates to drive sales and manage costs. The candidate should have a clear understanding of the retail business and use their finance expertise to assist the retail team in maximising business performance.
Additionally, the role includes supporting the sales and operating cost budgeting and forecasting process for retail, working with both the Retail and Property teams to produce future business plans.
On a more ad-hoc basis, the role may require providing high-level commercial and analytical support on matters such as shop profitability analysis, sales trend analysis, store cost control, and trading activity performance.
What you’ll be doing
* Provide financial and commercial support to stores, area managers, the retail team, and the retail director.
* Own weekly trade reporting, providing detailed financial analysis on store trading performances, including insights and recommendations.
* Manage month-end processes, including journal entries.
* Produce monthly divisional and store P&L statements and hold reviews with area managers to discuss performance and drive actions.
* Identify and implement process improvements in month-end and trade reporting tasks through automation and simplification.
* Lead the budgeting and forecasting process for all store cost areas, setting challenging but achievable targets.
* Provide insights aimed at improving retail profitability.
* Offer ad-hoc analysis and insights on retail performance.
* Support the Central Property team with month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and other tasks.
Skills and experience
* Part-qualified accountant
* Experience in business partnering or commercial finance, preferably in retail or FMCG environments
* Excellent Excel skills
* Experience with forecasting and budgeting processes
* Strong interest in understanding key business drivers
* Ability to collaborate with the business to drive operational improvements
* Effective communication skills across Finance & Non-Finance stakeholders, including senior management
* Adaptability and ability to meet tight deadlines and manage priorities
* Ownership and accountability for responsibilities
