Position Summary:

The Junior Health and Safety Specialist supports the development and maintenance of a safe environment for staff, patients, volunteers, physicians, medical professional staff, midwives, students and visitors by providing administrative and operational support to the Health, Safety & Wellness team. This role is ideal for an early-career professional with an interest in healthcare safety compliance, risk reporting, and documentation in a dynamic clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist in the coordination and documentation of health and safety programs aligned with healthcare regulations, legislation and best practices.
* Maintain accurate records of workplace incidents, workplace violence reports, safety inspections, and training attendance in compliance with Ministry of Labour (MOL), WSIB, and Accreditation Canada standards.
* Support the organization of staff safety training (e.g., WHMIS, PPE use) including, Mask fit, scheduling, tracking attendance, and preparing materials.
* Perform walk-throughs in clinical and non-clinical areas to observe and record hazards or unsafe conditions; escalate findings to the Senior Specialist.
* Track and distribute safety communications, bulletins, and required postings across hospital departments, including web based updates.
* Provide administrative support for the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), including preparing agenda, meeting minutes and follow-up action tracking.
* Assist in the onboarding process for new healthcare staff with respect to safety orientation and any preplacement requirements and follow – up as required
* Organize and maintain records of fit testing, immunizations, and return-to-work clearances as needed.
* Assist other members of Health, Safety & Wellness as required
* Other administrative duties as assigned
* This position will occasionally back up the Human Resources Administrative Assistant

Qualifications:

* Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Human Resources or a related field of study.
* Experience in a healthcare environment is an asset (e.g., hospital, clinic, long-term care).
* Familiarity with legislation (OHSA, WSIB, Public Health, Infection Prevention and Control protocols and Employee Standards Act) etc.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic reporting systems (e.g., RL6, Parklane).
* Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality in a clinical environment
* Proven ability to work effectively amongst cross-functional teams in a unionized environment.
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and analytical skills.
