Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want direct school-based experience before pursuing educational or clinical psychology? Could you provide calm, consistent 1:1 support for a student with ADHD and autism in a high-performing secondary setting?

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – Academic Year placement
*** £107.06 - £111.31 per day
*** Superb secondary school, Wednesbury
*** 1:1 support for a student with slight ADHD & Autism

The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with ADHD and autism across the school day. You will help the pupil stay engaged, manage routines and transitions, break tasks into manageable steps, and communicate progress clearly to teachers and the SENCO. The SEND Code of Practice sets out a graduated approach for schools to identify needs, put support in place, and review the impact of that support.

The Candidate:
You are calm, observant, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want meaningful experience in a secondary school, you are interested in how pupils with additional needs access learning, and you are keen to build practical insight before moving into educational or clinical psychology. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs, which makes this a strong foundation role for that pathway.

Requirements
1. Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
2. Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
3. Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Child-facing school roles can be eligible for an enhanced DBS check, and regulated activity with children can also require a Children’s Barred List check.
4. Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
5. Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This superb secondary school in Wednesbury offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a well-structured environment with high expectations and strong support systems. You will work closely with experienced staff in a setting where consistency, communication, and purposeful intervention matter, giving you direct exposure to the kind of day-to-day provision that shapes pupil progress in mainstream secondary education.
