Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Public Health Assistant – Early Years to join our Health Visiting service to deliver support to families (adults) with children aged nought to five in Kent.

You will need to be a confident and flexible practitioner, passionate about improving the health and well-being of children through delivery of the healthy child programme.

You will work as part of a team to keep children safe and well by having a good understanding of child development and the importance of play in children's lives, learning and language development.

Main duties of the job

What does the role involve ?

1. Understanding and Identifying healthy normal growth and development in children
2. Completing development reviews using the ages and stages questionnaire
3. Providing appropriate responses and advice to clients parent/cares and families
4. Escalating concerns when required
5. Attend and contribute to team meetings
6. Build relationships with colleagues to enhance the team working environment.

We provide full induction training, regular coaching and the support and encouragement needed to get you off to the best start.

This role is a community-based role so the majority of your duties will be carried out between your base and community settings.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. Relevant level 3 qualification (NVQ / QCF Diploma or certificate of care / Advanced apprenticeship) National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB)
8. Functional Skills at Level 2 (Literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths)
9. Diploma in Nursery Nursing or CACHE Level 3 award in Childcare and Education or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

10. Certificate of higher education in early years or early childhood studies
11. BFI responsive feeding training and awareness of BFI standards

Experience

Essential criteria

12. Experience in a child care environment or in a health or social care setting
13. Experience of working as part of a team
14. Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages

Desirable criteria

15. Experience of planning and delivering high quality programmes to support child development and or breastfeeding volunteer or peer support.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

16. Awareness of developments in the NHS
17. Understands the role and remit of a Public Health Assistant

Desirable criteria

18. Knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage and it’s outcomes
19. Knowledge of key theories and developments around child learning and development

Skills and abilities

20. Sound communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
21. Ability to organise own work
