One whole‑time/part‑time post as Consultant in Gastroenterology with a specialist interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease is available now at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The appointment is on a whole‑time/part‑time basis and applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. Job Responsibilities
Principal Activities:
 * Clinical – Clinician duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe in Oxford and the Horton Hospital in Banbury, with willingness to work in any of the Trust’s locations. Saturday lists may be required with appropriate time off in lieu. Clinics are a standard 4‑hour duration with new (30 min) and follow‑up (15 min) patients. Endoscopy lists are a standard 12‑unit per list, mixing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (1 diagnostic, 2 therapeutic) and colonoscopy (2 diagnostic including simple polypectomy, 3 therapeutic).
 * Provide clinical care in the Gastroenterology department with support from a team of secretarial and administrative staff. Office space, computer/laptop, and IT support are provided. One of the existing consultant team will provide mentorship support to new consultants.
 * Teaching/Research – Participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors, and conducting clinical examinations. Contribution to teaching, training, and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
 * Clinical Governance – Participate in all clinical governance activities, including audit, effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement and external accrediting bodies.
 * Personal & Professional Development – Keep current with relevant practice, attend study leave and CME courses, and engage in ongoing professional development.
 * Appraisal & Revalidation – Participate fully in appraisal and revalidation processes.
 * Management – Work within the Trust’s management policies and procedures, undertake administrative duties, and run clinical department under direction of lead clinician and/or directorate chair.
 * Health & Safety, Infection Control, Equality, Diversity, Freedom of Information, Patient & Public Involvement, Safeguarding, Information Governance – Assume responsibilities for health & safety, infection control, equality & diversity, FOI, PPI, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and information governance as required by the Trust.
Person Specification – Qualifications & Training (Essential)
 * Full GMC Registration
 * MRCP or equivalent
 * CCT in Gastroenterology, or registration on GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology, within six months of achieving CCT at time of interview
 * General training in Gastroenterology to specialist level with extensive experience in gastrointestinal endoscopy and JAG accreditation or equivalent in upper GI endoscopy

 * JAG Accreditation of colonoscopy skills
 * BCSP accredited
 * PhD or equivalent
Person Specification – Experience (Essential)
 * General training in Gastroenterology to specialist level or equivalent with extensive experience in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy; advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy
 * Consultant or senior trainee level
Person Specification – Experience (Desirable)
 * Advanced / complex therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy, training/experience in intestinal ultrasound

 * Leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills suitable for a specialist consultant in a large teaching hospital
 * Excellent personal and interpersonal skills
 * Excellent spoken and written English; highly developed communication skills; standard computing skills
