Join to apply for the Senior Data Engineer role at Learnerbly.

About Hutora Hutora is on a mission to reinvent how organisations manage, develop and deploy their workforce by rethinking workflows from the ground up for the AI age. Spun out of Learnerbly (a leading workplace learning platform), and currently in stealth, Hutora is a brand new AI-first product built on seven years of insight from working closely with HR and People leaders. We’re a well-connected, well-funded and ambitious startup that has done extensive customer research – we know the real problems to solve and how to solve them. Our team has a high engineering ratio, we move fast, value intense focus, and are passionate about delivering big results. Our first technical hires will work directly with our Head of Engineering, Head of Product, and CEO to lay the foundation of a platform that will drive the future of work.

Why join Hutora? We’re an AI-native startup building a platform that will power the future of work. Our team is focused on delivering meaningful impact from day one and collaborating closely with AI technology to translate data into intelligent features.

* High-impact, early team: Be one of our first engineers with outsized ownership and influence from day one. Your work will directly shape the product and our tech strategy.
* AI-forward & innovative: Work with AI tools to supercharge development and product capabilities, staying at the forefront of AI-enabled software.
* Fast-paced startup environment: Experience the energy of an early-stage startup with high expectations and rapid learning opportunities.
* Competitive compensation: Competitive salary and meaningful equity with shared success.

What We’re Looking For We’re seeking formidable engineers who act like owners. You should be able to take a vague problem, break it down, and ship a solution end-to-end without hand-holding. We value a growth mindset, ability to learn rapidly, and collaboration across teams. The ideal candidate will be an expert generalist with strong fundamentals in engineering and the ability to work with others to deliver value.

* Builder mentality: Proven track record of shipping software that solves real customer needs, with flexibility to wear multiple hats as needed.
* Startup grit: Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change; stays calm under pressure and adapts quickly.
* AI enthusiast: Hands-on experience with AI/LLM technologies and a habit of staying current with AI developments.
* Quality at speed: Writes clean, reliable code and can prototype quickly when needed, balancing speed with quality.
* Growth mindset: Always learning and improving, exploring new technologies and capabilities.
* Team player: Strong communicator and collaborator who works with product, design, and customers to deliver value.
* Passion for early-stage: Enthusiasm for startups, taking initiative and accepting responsibility to help build the company.
* Automation instinct: Identifies repetitive toil and uses CI, infrastructure-as-code, scripts, or AI agents to increase output.

About The Role As our first Data Engineer, you will design and own the data infrastructure that powers Hutora’s product. The platform must integrate with client systems (HRIS, project management, productivity tools, etc.), consolidate data to drive insights, and expose it to the application. This is a greenfield opportunity to set up a modern data stack from scratch. You’ll design data models, build data pipelines to ingest data, transform and store it in our data warehouse, and make it accessible to the application and AI models.

Key Responsibilities:

* Data pipeline development: Build robust pipelines to ingest data from various external tools and data stores; ensure reliable data flow, handle rate limits, errors, and schema changes gracefully.
* Data warehouse and modeling: Define the schema, store raw data, and transform it into clean, unified models using tools like dbt to create reusable data models and apply business logic.
* Expose data to the product: Implement efficient data access for the application and AI models, focusing on performance, caching, and scalability.
* Data quality & security: Establish validations, monitoring, and alerting to maintain data trust; handle sensitive data with appropriate encryption and access controls in line with GDPR and compliance considerations.
* Cross-functional collaboration: Work with a Forward-Deployed Engineer to understand data needs for new features, and assist with integrating new data sources or customer data pipelines as needed.

Ideal Profile

* Experienced data wrangler: 4+ years in data engineering or related fields; fluent in SQL; built ETL/ELT pipelines for substantial data; proficient with Python, Airbyte/Fivetran, or Kafka.
* Modern data stack savvy: Experience with data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and transformation tools (dbt); capable of designing analytics-friendly schemas.
* Coding and scripting: Strong SQL; comfortable writing code for data tasks; familiarity with distributed processing (Spark, Dask) is a plus but not required.
* Detail-oriented & reliable: Focus on data integrity; understands idempotency, backfill, incrementality; documents data models and tests pipelines, handles edge cases.
* Product mindset for data: Sees how data enables features and insights; collaborates with product teams to prioritize data integrations for end-user value.

Location: This is a hybrid role with occasional travel to Edinburgh for in-person collaboration, and infrequent travel to London as needed. Travel frequency varies based on business needs.

Ready to build something amazing? If this role sounds like a fit, we’d love to hear from you. Join Hutora to be part of building an AI-first startup from the ground up and contribute to software that changes how organizations operate.
