Environmental Project Manager

Location: Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Seniority level: Mid‑Senior

Employment type: Part‑time

Job Description: WSP is looking for Project Managers to join our Environmental Project Management Team. Reporting to a Senior Environmental Project Manager, you will support the delivery of a diverse range of environmentally led projects across the UK, in both the public and private sectors. Projects include major infrastructure schemes such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, Heathrow Expansion, East-West Rail, and Sizewell C, as well as associated developments in highways, rail, aviation, defence, nuclear, residential, property, energy generation, renewables, and transmission & distribution.

You will have the opportunity to manage smaller scale projects, assist Senior Project Managers on larger projects, and, as you grow, line‑manage and mentor junior team members.


Responsibilities

* Support the development of project proposals, determine project requirements, scope, resources, programme, and cost estimates for project delivery.
* Develop and maintain project management documentation, including plans, cost estimates, forecasts, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder registers, and organisation charts.
* Monitor and control the project schedule, staff hours, budgets, forecasts and expenditure, as well as project progress.
* Ensure health and safety information for site visits, including securing internal approvals, is in place.
* Undertake contract management and contract administration.
* Actively manage project change and risks, ensuring governance is adhered to and projects are delivered compliant and optimised.
* Work with, lead, mentor and develop multi‑disciplinary environmental project teams, including technical staff and suppliers.
* Promote and hold the project team accountable for delivery of environmental betterment, future‑ready and net‑zero strategies.
* Present as the face of Environment and Consents when interfacing with other WSP teams and as the face of WSP when interacting with clients and stakeholders, fostering excellent relationships.


Qualifications

* Interest or experience in environment or land‑based sustainable development, a can‑do attitude and a desire to develop your career.
* Confident communicator, written and verbal, able to convey key points and keep teams and stakeholders informed.
* Prior experience as Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager in a project or PMO environment, preferably in the environment or sustainability sectors.
* Working knowledge of programme management, including work breakdown structure, dependencies, critical path and capability to assess MS Project/Primavera P6 or similar.
* Commercial and contractual awareness, financial acumen, analytical skills and a proven track record of delivering projects within budget and managing change control. Experience with Professional Services Contracts, including NEC3/4, is beneficial.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) and either chartered status or working towards chartership/accreditation.
