SEMH Teaching Assistant
Wirral - Birkenhead and surrounding regions
Full-time / Part-time | Short-term / Long-term / Temp-to-perm / Permanent
£90 - 100 DOE
About the Role
Some children just need someone in their corner - someone who believes in them, listens without judgment, and helps them find their way back to learning. That's where you come in.
We're looking for a caring, patient and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join brilliant primary school teams in the Wirral. You'll support children with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them manage challenges, build confidence, and feel safe and valued in school.
No two days will ever be the same - and that's exactly what makes this role so rewarding.
Responsibilities
* Offer 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
* Help children regulate their emotions and develop coping strategies.
* Be a trusted adult they can rely on - someone who helps them feel seen and supported.
* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and external agencies to make sure support is consistent and effective.
* Celebrate every success - even the small ones.
Qualifications
* Experience in a school setting is great, but not essential. What matters most is your attitude and heart. We'd love to hear from you if you:
* Are patient, understanding, and passionate about supporting children.
* Stay calm under pressure and know how to de-escalate challenging situations.
* Build positive relationships quickly and communicate with empathy.
* Are eager to learn and grow - training and guidance will be provided.
Why You'll Love Working With Academics
* Lots of variety and opportunity with our roles
* Supportive, welcoming school communities to connect with
* Ongoing training and development opportunities
* The chance to make a real difference in children's lives, every single day
