Plumber Location: Uppingham Contract Type: Permanent Hours: Full time Salary: £28,000 30,000 depending on experience Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co-educational independent boarding school which runs 24/7 in term-time. It has a strong academic profile and excellent pastoral care with an international reputation, and state-of-the-art science, sports and music facilities. Its 830 pupils, aged 13-18, are accommodated in 15 boarding houses, taught by over 20 academic departments, and participate in numerous extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, and drama. The academic programme is supported by business units responsible for marketing, estates, finance, HR, IT, operations (catering, cleaning, and procurement), health and safety, and the Schools trading subsidiary. The School employs c. 550 staff. The Estates team of about 40 people is responsible to the Estates Director and work in Maintenance, Grounds, Gardens, Estates compliance, Porterage and Security departments. The School is undertaking an ambitious Infrastructure Strategy to improve and renew elements of the Estate, including its core boarding provision, and has refinanced its long-term borrowings to fund the strategy. Job purpose We are seeking for a self-motivated and reliable Qualified Plumber for Reactive Tasks predominantly but also assisting with PPM tasks and small project works. Experience of working in an education scenario would be beneficial as would a general maintenance background. Predominantly Reactive maintenance of both domestic and commercial buildings. Regular customer feedback regarding work requests made has been provided and customers have not needed to escalate any issues. To maintain the pumps, cylinders, and control gear throughout all the buildings. To maintain hot and cold-water systems throughout all the buildings. To complete statutory PPMs and follow the PPM planner. To install new pipework, services and fittings as required. To repair leaks as required. Repairs to guttering replacement. To work with other members of the maintenance team when required. To assist contractors as and when required. To keep up to date with new materials and method of application. Updating records as required on the sites CAFM system. To carry out other duties as may be required by the Head of M&E or Head of Fabric. At all times to work in a safe and tidy manner and comply with current health and safety legislation and the College Health and Safety Policy. Your accountabilities Qualifications, skills and experience, personal qualities required Qualifications: Self-motivated and with a flexible approach as well as the ability to use initiative to complete works in a safe manner. Plumbing Qualification - City & Guilds Plumbing Qualification (Preferred) Ideally a minimum of 3 years experience Valid UK Driving Licence (Required) CSCS (Preferred) Sufficient level of literacy and IT knowledge in order to complete basic records and receive jobs through the CAFM System. Skills and experience: Broad and extensive knowledge of plumbing and heating systems. Experience in fault finding and repair methods. Knowledge of above and below ground foul and rainwater drainage systems. To be experienced in a variety of pipework, iron, copper, lead, plastic and associated fittings. Knowledge of safe working practices and the ability to apply this in practice. Awareness of COSHH and health and safety regulations as they relate to building and maintenance. Good awareness of Asbestos.
