Overview
Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully integrated design and build business combining Mott MacDonald's design expertise with JN Bentley's contracting experience to deliver award-winning projects. The organisation focuses on enhancing environment and communities by delivering feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services to keep water flowing and wastewater treated.
You will contribute to projects across the water sector, including clean and wastewater treatment sites, below-ground assets, reservoirs and nature-based solutions, primarily in the UK water market. You will shape process functions through the lifecycle of projects from concept design to commissioning, ensuring mechanical aspects are integrated and compliant with current legislation and standards.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and review designs for schemes to ensure fit-for-purpose outcomes that meet current legislation and standards; lead development of process design deliverables such as process models, mass balances, and control philosophies.
* Analyse site performance and identify risks impacting project delivery; develop mitigations to avoid negative impacts or exploit opportunities.
* Challenge process selection and delivery effectiveness to provide best-value solutions for clients.
* Identify opportunities for innovation to meet whole-life cost and net-zero objectives.
* Produce and review technical specifications and procurement schedules; review supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
* Understand and contribute to design standards with knowledge of client and industry standards; question Client specifications and defend solutions to complex problems.
* Identify and implement improvements to delivery processes, including standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools.
* Act as technical checker on project documents and undertake technical reviews across teams.
* Manage design interfaces with other disciplines and produce integrated documentation.
* Engage with engineers, specialists, clients and project teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions; collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams throughout design, construction and beyond.
* Supervise and mentor graduates and engineers to develop knowledge and skills.
* Engage with clients to manage relationships and promote a one-team approach to achieving aims.
* Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems.
Candidate specification
* Chemical Engineering or related Process Engineering degree; or equivalent field.
* Working towards Chartered or Incorporated membership of a recognized professional body (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience and understanding of water and/or wastewater unit processes and treatment plant; experience delivering process designs for wastewater projects.
* Experience with HAZOP studies as chair or team member is advantageous.
* Experience on water or wastewater projects, including non-infrastructure or infrastructure contexts.
* Record of delivering high-quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards; effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
* Methodical problem solving, proactive and pragmatic approach; ability to deliver results within short timeframes, with good time management.
* Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
