Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Exercise Therapist. Candidates should possess or be working towards a degree or equivalent in related fields such as sports science, health studies, or youth and community work, along with recognised exercise teaching or coaching qualifications (e.g., Gym Instructor or GP Referral).
The ideal candidate will have experience designing individualised physical activity programmes and delivering sessions for individuals with various health needs. Experience in mental health or healthcare settings is desirable.
You will join our established physiotherapy team and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team caring for individuals with mental health issues.
This role covers inpatient adult wards across two sites: Swandean Hospital in Worthing and Oaklands Centre for Acute Care in Chichester. It is a 12-month fixed-term contract, working 20 hours weekly, with flexible working options and various benefits to support career growth and wellbeing.
Note: A current CIMSPA registration number is required for shortlisted applicants.
Main duties of the job
1. Support planning, coordination, and delivery of physical activity programs.
2. Provide targeted physical activity interventions for clients with mental health conditions and physical health issues.
3. Engage in health promotion activities emphasizing the importance of physical activity for health and wellbeing.
4. Develop signposting and referral pathways for patients to community sports and activity groups post-discharge.
5. Contribute to a positive, inclusive environment supporting patient recovery.

* Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification (e.g., YMCA)
* L1 Sports Coaching Award or coaching experience, with willingness to pursue further qualifications
* Level 3 GP Exercise Referral certificate
* HSE-approved First Aid at Work (3 days)
* Level 3/4 CIMSPA registration number
* Ability to work under pressure
* Basic IT skills
* Group work skills
* Effective team player
* Ability to lead health lifestyle groups
* Good organizational and communication skills
* Understanding of professional conduct, health/safety, and risk management
* Experience working with clients with mental health needs and designing exercise programs

* ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist

* Level 2 Exercise to Music
* Other recognised L3 or L4 qualifications
