The Senior Legal Counsel will be a core member of the Accuro Group in-house legal team. The role holder will provide legal advice to the Board and Senior Management, and work closely with client-facing employees and external advisers in relation to legal matters arising in the day-to-day administration of complex high-value fiduciary structures.
Job Requirements
* Previous experience held in private practice or in-house legal within a similar trust business.
* A good understanding of the Codes, guidelines, and expectations of the JFSC.
* Knowledge of trust and company law and (ideally) UK tax law, including a sound knowledge of fiduciary structures and functions.
* Ability to learn and become an expert in new legislation or regulation which is or becomes relevant for ATJ.
* Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Able to always act with integrity and apply discretion where required.
* Good project management skills.
* Able to identify and manage any relevant material risks.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice in relation to trust, tax and company law, and support Client Administration teams (predominately Client Directors and above) in the technical drafting of trust instruments and contractual agreements.
* Manage and oversee the work of junior Legal Counsel and play a key role in their personal development.
* Develop wider roles within the business (e.g. act as personal director to corporate trustees/directors or lead client relationships to increase revenue generation).
* Contribute to business development by attending external networking events, conferences and supporting new business enquiries where applicable, including revenue generation.
* Provide legal advice within Accuro Trust (Jersey) Ltd (ATJ) to the boards of companies and the trustees of trusts administered by ATJ.
* Provide transactional support to client facing teams, including in relation to client entity restructuring, acquisition and sales.
* Prepare instructions to external advisers and act as a central point of contact within ATJ for the engagement of external legal advisers.
* Support and assist legal, tax and regulatory compliance reporting as required, at Group level, including FATCA and CRS, Jersey economic substance, UK and international trust and company registers, and tax compliance.
* Maintain a wide knowledge and understanding of legal and private client tax matters as they relate to all aspects of the client business.
* Maintain a good working knowledge of the current regulatory requirements and legal framework in Jersey.
* Provide internal technical training to employees in accordance with the overall training plan agreed with the Accuro Academy and the Group Legal team.
* Work collaboratively within the Group Legal team to support legal projects e.g. GDPR, tax transparency reporting, employment law and updating of legal precedents.
