Job Summary

37.5 hours per week.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, well-motivated, forward-thinking clinician to lead the team at Plym Bridge House. It is a 12-bed, purpose-built psychiatric tier-4 unit for teenagers with severe mental health problems or mental illness.

Our experienced team provides high-quality, short-term care for young people whose needs cannot be met in the community. The 12 to 18-year-olds we admit are assessed and treated in the least restrictive way possible, and for the shortest amount of time appropriate.

Plym Bridge House (PBH) is staffed by a dedicated and experienced team made up of consultant psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, medical staff, registered mental health nurses, nurses with children\'s nursing qualifications, health care assistants, occupational therapists and family therapists. The site is also home to teachers and teaching assistants to ensure peoples education needs are met, alongside their physical, mental and emotional needs.

Main duties of the job

The PBH Senior Clinical Lead provides clinical and professional leadership to the CAMHS tier 4 inpatient unit and the Childrens Young Peoples Place of Safety (CYP PoS) that sit within the Children, Young People and Families Services. As post holder, you will

* Assist the senior management team in Children, Young People and Families Services (CYPFS) in addressing the organisations strategic and operational agenda as related to Plym Bridge House (PBH).
* Be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality unit through the management and deployment of resources within a defined budget.
* Provide line management to the team manager and leads and oversee all operational aspects of the inpatient unit and patient flow, liaising with departments and teams as required.
* Be accountable to the Directorate Manager / Deputy Operational and Strategic Lead for CYPFS. You will lead on designated projects, ensure recommendations from the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), near misses, complaints and other incidents are implemented.
* Promote partnership working within and across organisations with relevant stakeholders including AHPs, GPs, Consultants, nursing, social care professionals, service users and carers to ensure continuum of care and creating a culture of continuous service improvement. The post holder leads on the implementation and adherence to the Matrons Charter.
* Lead on environmental unit issues, including external / internal PEAT initiatives, general environmental improvement, and audit activities/outcomes, ensuring national / local standards and policies are met and implemented, thus promoting a clean environment for care and best practice in infection control.
* Participate in the CYPFS operational managers Operational Managers on-call rota if requested to do so

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

* The Senior Clinical Lead provides professional and clinical leadership to the PBH Team.
* The post holder will also have influence and contact with all services aligned to the CAMHS pathway.
* The post-holder is responsible for direct line management for PBH Leads.

Responsibilities For Patient Care:

* Role model clinical leadership
* Communicate information in a way that makes it relevant and understandable for service users and carers, working to the principles of the functions policy implementation guidelines and practice in line with the standards and values set out in them.
* Work as part of the team in a clinical capacity where appropriate.
* Take a lead role in supporting the team in the identification of risk and the formulation of risk management plans. Ensure staff are competent at managing patient risk to self and others.
* Take a lead role in clinical decision-making, including maintaining the safety of patients, staff and the public in challenging, potentially violent situations.
* Ensure that communication of decisions is circulated to other agencies and action plans followed, always ensuring Senior Managers and Directors are briefed as and when required.
* Ensure that the team plan aftercare, making appropriate agreed referrals for longer term treatment.
* Collaborate with other teams and services in the provision of patient care.
* Assess and monitor the effect of medication and report observations to medical staff.
* Provide education to patients and carers to enhance their knowledge, therefore, improving longer term outcomes.
* Ensure there are robust multi-disciplinary team processes in place within the service that includes timely response to referrals, assessment and risk assessment.
* Ensure that patients receive relevant information, such as correspondence and phone calls, information about the service, public health announcements and health promotion information in an accessible and timely way.
* Manage the service user feedback and involvement process, ensuring local resolution of any issues if possible, and take action to improve services as a result of feedback
* Ensure child and adult safeguarding procedures and guidelines are implemented effectively.
* Be responsible for updating own practice, knowledge and skills, including Livewell Southwests mandatory training.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Registered health or social care professional with current registration.
* Clinical, postgraduate management or leadership qualification or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level.
* Evidence of recent professional development in an up-to-date portfolio.
* Masters Level study or equivalent transferable experience.

Desirable

* Additional courses relevant to CAMHS or Mental Health Services

Experience

Essential

* Significant leadership and or management experience linked to health or social care provision including working with senior colleagues or clinicians.
* Previous experience within a comparable role with transferrable proven skills in staff management, building effective relationships and networking.
* Experience of managing a diverse team and developing local services within an MDT.
* Measurable track record in involving and motivating staff to improve performance.
* Proven success at managing service development and organisational change while maintaining service quality.
* Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with various stakeholders in the redesign of services.
* Experience of managing projects and efficient planning.
* Budget management experience including reducing cost, monitoring and determining corrective actions.
