To find out more about NHS Ayrshire and Arran please visit our website - NHS Ayrshire & Arran - Home (nhsaaa.net) Position: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing member of staff within the MH Alcohol and Drug Liaison Team to undertake the role of Charge Nurse within the service. Hours: 37 hours per week. Shift pattern including nightshift and weekends. This post is offered on a full-time basis. Job share will be considered for this post. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings. UK Driving Licence: A UK driving licence is essential for this role. What you will do: Job Purpose : The applicant requires to be highly motivated for this position as the service involves working across many areas and delivering established pathways with Police Scotland and AUCS (Ayrshire Urgent Care Service). The successful candidates will work as part of the wider Unscheduled Care Mental Health Services providing input to individuals with alcohol and drug related problems as well as those with co-occurring acute mental health problems across the full spectrum of mental health from crisis work in Primary care to relapse management in people with severe and enduring illness. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of treatment which meets the needs of the service users of Ayrshire & Arran. They will also be required to work within the new Unscheduled Care Mental Health Assessment Hub during day time and night time hours. They will provide leadership, management, support and supervision to a team of staff. The successful candidate will work as part of an Ayrshire & Arran wide service delivering care 24 hours per day. Overnight the service is open to all age ranges including individuals supported by CAMH’s, Older Adult And Learning disability services. Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post: Experience specific to alcohol and drug presentations is essential. Experience in acute mental health nursing in the community and previous experience of working in a crisis service/home treatment team is desirable. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work using their own initiative and as a lone worker working within a variety of settings within the community. They should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of current mental health policies and mental health legislation.
