We are currently looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Crime Paralegal to join our General & Protest teams. In this role, you will assist our solicitors in managing a diverse caseload and providing vital support throughout the legal process. Your contributions will be essential in ensuring the best outcomes for our clients. This position is ideal for someone with a keen interest in criminal law, as well as a passion for serving communities affected by unrest and legal challenges.
Our team has been at the forefront of cutting-edge protest cases over the last decade - from the "Ziegler" case, to the Colston 4. We have also represented the Stansted 15, Heathrow 13, those accused at DSEi protests, Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil. We represent a number of people prosecuted for actions under the banner of Palestine Action and large numbers of people arrested and prosecuted for proscription based offences following the proscription of Palestine Action. We have pioneered the use of defences based on article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
This is an opportunity for a Paralegal to join our team, with some work in this dynamic area of law, as well as in general crime.
Responsibilities
* Assist solicitors in preparing cases for court, including researching legal precedents and drafting documents.
* Manage client files and maintain accurate records of case progress.
* Attend hearings and trials as needed to provide support and take notes.
* Communicate with clients to gather information and provide updates on their cases.
* Support the preparation of legal reports and documentation for various proceedings.
* Stay updated on relevant legislation and legal developments in the field of criminal law.
Requirements
* Law degree or equivalent legal qualifications.
* Previous experience as a paralegal or in a similar legal support role is preferred.
* Strong understanding of criminal law and legal procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
* Strong research and analytical skills.
* Commitment to social justice.
* Being police station accredited is preferable.
