Overview

This consultant Multi-professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) post is an exciting new role within the Trust. It is an opportunity to embed new ways of working and shape how we work with females on our acute ward as we develop a new model of working. The MPAC will take a key leadership role supporting people with acute mental health conditions within the acute ward service, with a particular focus on providing consultation and support for people with acute mental health problems in the acute pathway, including offering consultation and advice for the acute inpatient wards. The Multi-professional Consultant AC/RC will provide strong, visible clinical leadership within the Acute Care pathway, delivering care and treatment for the most complex and vulnerable service users.


Responsibilities

* Assess and treat a complex caseload of patients with mental health diagnoses.
* Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues.
* Work closely with community teams and across the system to ensure safe and effective care.
* Provide assessment of needs, formulation and intervention plans, including direct intervention or support work and outcome evaluation.
* Maintain clinical excellence and oversee clinical governance, policy and service development; provide expert advice on practice.
* Demonstrate the eight core competencies of an Approved Clinician (AC)?, and fulfil the responsibilities of the Responsible Clinician (RC).
* Provide an evidence-based treatment pathway to address a range of mental health, learning disability and neurodiversity needs, including autism.
* Ensure an equitable service, meeting patients\' needs and developing additional treatment packages within the treatment strategy.
* Oversee formulation of effective treatment plans and management of a client\'s mental health problems using evidence-based methods.
* Lead and contribute to clinical supervision, supervision of staff, and ensure high-quality clinical and risk assessment services as required.
* Provide statutory reports as required and set annual improvement targets for therapeutic activity.
* Provide expert consultation and professional advice to service-users, carers and colleagues; support a robust quality service across the MDT (Mental Health Team).
* Lead multi-professional recruitment and contribute to the development and articulation of best practice across the Directorate.
* Represent the profession and Approved Clinician perspective on relevant working groups and engage with regional/national forums as appropriate.
* Deliver specialist training and supervision for MDT staff and promote evidence-based practice.


Qualifications and Experience

* A registered mental health professional (clinical psychology, mental health nursing, social work, or occupational therapy) with extensive clinical experience of working with detained patients, capable of leading multidisciplinary acute inpatient teams.
* Recognised expertise in related specialist areas, including learning disabilities and neurodiversity.
