About UsThe Road Ahead NI is a registered charity dedicated to supporting individuals, families and communities across Northern Ireland who have been affected by road traffic collisions. We provide free trauma counselling, peer mentoring, children’s play therapy, wellbeing workshops, and remembrance events. We also deliver road safety education projects to schools and community groups. Guided by our belief that no-one should travel this journey alone, we are committed to ensuring that those affected by road crashes can access compassionate, person-centred support when they need it most.Role PurposeThe Co-ordinator will be responsible for managing and developing The Road Ahead NI’s services, ensuring that people affected by road traffic collisions receive high-quality, needs-led support. This will include coordinating counselling provision, managing volunteer mentors, delivering innovative support projects, and contributing to the ongoing development and sustainability of the charity
Responsibilities
* Provide 1-to-1 mentoring support to people referred into the service who have been impacted by a road traffic collision (in person, by phone, online or via email).
* Agree a support contract with each client and establish a relationship of trust and respect.
* Co-ordinate all counselling referrals and match each service user to an appropriate trauma counsellor.
* Refer and signpost service users to specialist community services as required.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records of all engagement, referrals and outcomes.
* Maintain accurate records of associated counsellors and their details eg service delivery agreements, registration & insurance.
* Design and develop needs-led workshops for adults, children and young people affected by the trauma of an RTC.
* Organise regular peer support groups and service user involvement events.
* Assist in the organisation of community events such as annual memorial event.
* Assist in the development and delivery of targeted road safety education projects in partnership with schools and community groups.
* Assist in the design surveys, evaluations and service user focus groups to assess and improve services.
* Guest Speak at relevant events on behalf of the Charity.
* Collaborate with relevant statutory services, voluntary and Community services and Private Sector to further develop services and programme development.
* Recruit, train and supervise a team of volunteer mentors.
* Provide individual and group supervision to volunteer mentors.
* Assist in the co-ordination of volunteer training programmes and ongoing development opportunities.
* Assist in applying for grant funding to support volunteer training, counselling, projects and workshops.
* Support the development of successful fundraising campaigns.
* Provide monthly updates and reports to The Road Ahead NI Management Committee.
* Assist in the management and monitoring of The Road Ahead NI’s social media platforms.
* Attend fortnightly professional supervision with external supervisor / counsellor.
* Adhere to safeguarding procedures and all organisational policies.
* Ensure compliance with equal opportunities, health and safety, GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
* Counselling degree or currently working towards achieving equivalent.
* A Minimum of five GCSE’s or equivalent, including Maths & English.
* Hold a third level qualification.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience working with vulnerable adults and children in a support role.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a management or supervisory role within a support setting.
* Minimum 2 years experience working or volunteering within the voluntary or community sector.
* Experience coordinating support services, including matching service users to counsellors.
* Experience working with individuals traumatised by road traffic collisions.
* Experience referring and signposting to specialist support services.
* Experience in developing and delivering needs-led support projects for children and young people.
* Experience in applying for grants and developing successful fundraising campaigns.
* Experience of working with multi-disciplinary professionals and stakeholders.
* Experience in designing and delivering road safety education programmes.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
* Highly organised with strong time-management skills.
* Ability to work flexibly and independently.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to inspire, lead and develop volunteers.
* Excellent listening and counselling skills.
* Ability to listen with empathy, respect and understanding, creating a safe and supportive environment for service users.
* Strong record-keeping and report-writing skills.
