Role Overview
Essex County Council is committed to transforming services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our vision is to identify and assess needs early and provide impactful support, reducing reliance on statutory services. We aim to deliver effective, cost-efficient services that improve outcomes and life experiences for CYP aged 0-25.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide high-quality advice and support to schools, settings, and colleges to promote inclusive education for children and young people with SEND, including areas like Autism, Language and Communication, SEMH, and Cognition and Learning.
2. Support the delivery and evaluation of school-led SEND initiatives, fostering peer development and sharing specialist knowledge.
3. Work strategically with educational settings to evaluate and enhance their SEND offer through coaching, training, and capacity building.
4. Identify and deploy targeted support to improve inclusion and transition for children with complex SEND, ensuring effective resource use and impact monitoring.
5. Review, assess, and improve practice in assigned schools, settings, or colleges, including developing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and annual reviews.
6. Manage complex casework in collaboration with partners to maintain placements, resolve issues, and prevent exclusions.
7. Conduct monitoring visits for placements in independent non-maintained special schools to ensure suitability and support transitions back to Essex settings.
Experience and Qualifications
* Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor’s degree) with QTS or equivalent.
* Demonstrable ongoing professional development and expertise in SEND; a Master's degree is highly desirable.
* Significant teaching or Early Years experience, with a strong background in SEND.
* Deep knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
* Experience working collaboratively with services like health, social care, and voluntary sectors.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of delivering training and influencing professionals.
* Ability to lead cultural, strategic, and operational change collaboratively.
Additional Information
Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, 13th May at County Hall, Chelmsford.
This role requires mobility across the operational area. Candidates must have a driving license and access to a vehicle or alternative mobility arrangements.
