Offer description

Are you an experienced marine professional ready to take on a key role in a live harbour environment? Do you enjoy balancing operational delivery, safety, and stakeholder management? Do you want to be part of the team working on a nationally significant infrastructure project? We’re looking for a Deputy Harbour Master to join NASH Maritime, supporting Harbour Authority operations for the Sizewell C project, based at our client’s office in Suffolk. This is a 12‑month contract, with the possibility of further extension. In this hands‑on role, you’ll support the Harbour Master in managing day‑to‑day marine activity, helping ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations across a busy and evolving construction environment. You’ll work closely with contractors, regulators and project teams, acting as a key point of coordination and decision‑making on navigation safety. Alongside operational delivery, you’ll play an important role in maintaining an effective marine safety management system compliant with the Ports & Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC), supporting risk management, and ensuring activities align with statutory requirements and best practice. This is a great opportunity to take on a visible, high‑impact role within a major UK project – working at the centre of marine operations where safety, judgement and collaboration are key.

Qualifications

* Marine operational experience preferably at Assistant Harbour Master or equivalent level
* Demonstrable track record of managing navigation safety in harbour or port environments
* Knowledge and understanding of the Ports & Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC)
* A developed understanding of relevant occupational health, marine safety and environment obligations and systems
* Ability to interact and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders with excellent communication and decision‑making skills
* A solution‑driven approach and proven marine management skills
* Strong MS Office / IT capability / comfortable with bespoke IT systems

Desirable Qualifications

* Diploma for Harbour Masters (Lloyds Maritime Academy or similar)
* UK Harbour Master Certificate (or willingness to work towards gaining this)
* Oil Spill Response 4P qualification
* Safety leadership qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely)
* Practical Piloting experience
