Dorset Council are seeking an experienced and motivated Rural Surveyor to take responsibility for the management of the Council’s rural estate and land assets. You will play a key role in delivering best value, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic professional advice to support effective rural estate management.
Location: Dorset Council
Set-up: Hybrid – 2-days per week
Rate: £500/day via umbrella inside IR35
Duration: Initial 6 months, potential extension
Hours: Full-time position
Responsibilities include:
1. Lead on the portfolio and asset management of the Council’s rural estate, ensuring alignment with corporate and departmental objectives
2. Act as the Council’s representative for tenant liaison, estate management, and stakeholder engagement
3. Oversee and monitor external providers’ performance, outputs, and fees, ensuring work is delivered to agreed standards
4. Manage budgets effectively, including performance monitoring, reporting, and identifying cost-saving or revenue-generating opportunities
5. Conduct site inspections, assess compliance risks, and provide professional advice to Members, senior officers, and stakeholders
Requirements:
6. RICS qualification (essential) with significant post-qualification experience in rural or agricultural property management
7. Demonstrable experience managing a large rural estate portfolio, including acquisitions, disposals, and tenancy matters
8. Strong understanding of landlord and tenant law, environmental compliance, and property legislation
9. Proven ability to manage budgets, external consultants, and complex stakeholder relationships in a political environment
10. Full UK driving licence and excellent ICT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and property management systems
