About Our Client
Leading Housing Association are looking to recruit a Financial Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a technical accounting role with a focus on fixed asset and capital accounting.
Job Description
This role will lead and manage all fixed asset and balance sheet accounting while providing technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, enhance financial reporting, and improve operational processes. You will provide technical and accounting support to the Finance team and manage two staff members.
* Manage the monthly balance sheet reporting of group and subsidiary companies, ensuring correct accounting for fixed assets (additions and disposals), capitalisation, grants, and depreciation. Lead a team of two, providing coaching, development, and performance management.
* Provide guidance on financial compliance, processes, and policies to the wider Finance team and business. Prepare accounting policy papers aligned with applicable standards, review changes to the Capital Funding Guide, and present complex issues clearly to aid decision-making.
* Oversee the control process to ensure the integrity of all accounting records, including regular reconciliations between asset and accounting databases.
* Assist in preparing the Annual Financial Statements, focusing on impairment reviews, fixed asset notes, leases, and subsidiary financials. Act as the main contact for external auditors regarding balance sheet and fixed asset information and handle related regulatory returns.
* Handle budgeting and reforecasting of asset sales, fixed assets, capitalisation, depreciation, RCGF, and DPF, working closely with the Senior Accountant.
* Provide information to external and internal auditors as required.
* Manage tax computations, ensuring timely preparation and submission. Offer tax advice and liaise with external advisors as needed.
* Monitor and update operational controls, including procedural documentation and process maps.
* Support the implementation and testing of new and existing financial systems.
The Successful Applicant
Proficient in numerical analysis and interpretation, with experience in financial database ledger systems. Knowledge of current financial reporting standards, corporate tax, VAT regulations, reconciliation skills, and fixed asset accounting is essential.
