You will be joining a well-established public sector organisation that delivers Roads and Transportation services across the region. The Structures team plays a key role in assessing, maintaining and improving bridges and other highway structures that support the wider network. You will be part of a collaborative engineering environment where safety, quality and effective service delivery are at the heart of everything they do.
Your new role
1. Lead on the design of new works and improvements for bridges and highway structures
2. Manage general and principal inspections, condition assessments and maintenance activities
3. Oversee asset data management for all structures
4. Prepare surveys, designs, contracts and supervise works on site
5. Handle contract payments, variations, claims and disputes
6. Plan, prioritise and organise team workloads to meet timescales and budgets
7. Monitor and report project progress to the Design Engineering Manager
8. Develop solutions to a wide range of structural and design issues
9. Manage abnormal load routing
10. Ensure procurement follows council Standing Orders
11. Allocate work, identify resource gaps and support staff development
12. Lead on customer enquiries andplaints
13. Carry out recruitment, performance reviews, disciplinary matters and absence management
14. Lead regular team briefings
15. Act as Client and Principal Designer under CDM regulations
16. Ensure health and safetypliance across all activities
17. Represent Roads and Transportation at meetings andmittees
18. Support and deputise for the Design Engineering Manager when required
19. Contribute to capital and revenue budget management
20. Prepare and present reports for internal and external groups
21. Contribute to corporateernance,pliance and performance
22. Lead on preparation and monitoring of the Service Asset Management Plan
What you'll need to succeed
23. Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council
24. Extensive experience in bridges and highway structures
25. Strongmunication and stakeholder management skills
26. Proven project management experience
27. Working knowledge of contract management
28. Strong understanding of health and safety legislation
29. Full driving licence
Desirable
30. Degree in civil or structural engineering
31. Postgraduate qualification
32. Experience managing a team
33. IOSH Managing Safely or similar
34. Knowledge of AutoCAD or asset management software
35. Localernment experience
36. Understanding of pavement construction over structures
