Role Summary
We're seeking a proactive Technical Assurance Manager to safeguard product food safety, legality, quality, and integrity at our Harlow site. Reporting to the Head of Technical and leading a team of 5, you'll own our site quality systems, audit readiness (BRCGS & customers), and continuous improvement—partnering closely with Operations, NPD, and Supply Chain to deliver right-first-time outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with food safety, legality, and quality standards through robust policies, procedures, and a living Quality Management System (QMS).
• Lead audit readiness and maintain accreditations (e.g., BRCGS); manage customer audits and close out non-conformances.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end traceability, including mock recalls to 100% reconciliation and regulatory compliance.
• Own pest management strategy with the contractor; protect product integrity and site hygiene.
• Oversee product testing and environmental monitoring (EMP); trend results, investigate deviations, and drive corrective actions.
• Investigate customer complaints, conduct root cause analysis, and implement CAPA to reduce recurrence and improve satisfaction.
• Deliver training/coaching on food safety, hygiene, allergens, and quality standards to build a culture of technical excellence.
• Proactively monitor site risks and trends; maintain a technical risk register and escalate where needed.
• Partner cross-functionally (Operations, Warehouse, Planning, NPD, Commercial) on compliance, change control, and launch readiness.
• Support incident/recall preparedness and post-incident learning reviews.
Skills & Experience Required
• Strong knowledge of food safety, legality, compliance, and quality in a food manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a technical/quality role with audit exposure (BRCGS and customer standards).
• HACCP Level 3 (or higher) and Food Safety & Hygiene Level 3 (or higher).
• Working understanding of HACCP, VACCP, TACCP and practical on-site application.
• Proven leadership and team development; clear standards and coaching mindset.
• Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving; proactive, can-do attitude.
• Data literacy for trending and reporting (Excel; Power BI desirable); SAP experience advantageous.
