Capital Project Planner

Salary: Up to £52,000 per annum, depending on experience

About the role
Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real impact on major infrastructure programmes? As a Capital Project Planner, you will be the subject matter expert for project scheduling. Using Primavera P6, you will develop, maintain, and assure programme schedules across our capital delivery portfolio. You will support live projects while also shaping programmes for the next AMP investment period. This gives you the opportunity to influence projects from early definition through to delivery.
You will join a supportive Project Management Office (PMO). The team includes around 10 programme controllers working across Water and Wastewater capital projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure plans are realistic, robust, and deliverable.
Responsibilities
* Develop programme schedules using best practice work breakdown structures and Southern Water reporting standards
* Manage complex and interrelated project and programme schedules
* Analyse critical paths, trends, and schedule movements each month
* Produce baseline schedules to track progress against gateway milestones and regulatory outcomes
* Review contractor programme submissions and recommend actions for acceptance
* Create clear programme reports and insights to support informed business decisions
* Support improvements to planning tools, techniques, and reporting standards
* Coordinate with stakeholders to provide accurate and consistent programme information
Essential criteria
* Proven experience in project planning, scheduling, or controls within a construction or infrastructure environment
* Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 or similar enterprise planning software
* Experience working with NEC conditions of contract
* Ability to analyse schedule, resource, and cost data to identify risks and variances
* Confidence working within a Project Management Office or programme controls function
Desirable
* Experience in the water or utilities sector
* Understanding of APM or PRINCE2 project management methodologies
* Degree qualification in construction, engineering, or related discipline
* Completion of relevant professional development, such as Primavera P6 training
* Chartered or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional body
