Description The Service & Team: Harbour Master – Newquay Harbour Full-Time | Cornwall Council – Maritime Section Cornwall Council’s Maritime Section is seeking to appoint a full-time Harbour Master to oversee operations at Newquay Harbour. This vibrant and dynamic harbour supports a diverse range of activities, including commercial fishing, passenger services, and leisure boating. The Role: The Harbour Master will be responsible for the effective administration, safe operation, and strategic management of the harbour, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, Council policies, and commercial priorities. This is a unique opportunity to work in a stunning coastal location in a role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the local maritime community. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the day-to-day operations of Newquay Harbour, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cleanliness. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and Council procedures. Manage marine-related assets and infrastructure. Provide leadership and line management to the Maritime Assistant, assigning tasks in line with operational needs. Deliver excellent customer service to harbour users and members of the public. Maintain accurate records and utilise IT systems, including Excel and databases, to support harbour operations. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to a basic criminal record disclosure check. Working Pattern: Due to the seasonal nature of the role, the post holder will be required to participate in a rota providing seven-day operational cover during the summer season. This includes working alternate weekends from April through September. The role is based on a five-day working week, with flexibility required to meet service demands. What you’ll need to succeed: Essential Requirements: Proven experience in the marine and/or port industry. Strong interpersonal skills with experience in customer and public engagement. Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Excel and database management. Experience in asset management within a marine environment is desirable.
