Salary: £57,913 to £61,313 per annum (including London weighting)

We are seeking a Senior Contracts Manager with commercial expertise and a commitment to sustainability. This role demands strategic oversight of complex, high-value service contracts, particularly within waste management, to ensure optimal Value for Money, strict environmental compliance, and ongoing service enhancements for residents and partners.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Contracts & Procurement and collaborating with the Senior Contracts & Procurement Manager, the Senior Contracts Manager will serve as a key commercial steward for critical service operations. While this position contributes to overall procurement strategy, its primary responsibility lies in the operational management of major contracts. The successful candidate will oversee high-value waste management contracts, ensuring supplier performance against established KPIs and adherence to robust commercial governance standards.
The Senior Contracts Manager will provide departmental leadership, including line management of a Contract Manager, and promote a culture of best practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Administer the full lifecycle of significant contracts, concentrating on supplier performance, commercial compliance, and operational excellence to guarantee Value for Money.
* Lead the administration of high-value waste management contracts within the Local Authority, facilitating efficient service delivery for all stakeholders.
* Enforce rigorous environmental compliance across all managed contracts.
* Foster innovation in service provision by identifying process improvement opportunities and driving enhanced outcomes.
* Support the development and implementation of comprehensive contract management frameworks, toolkits, and policies to strengthen team capability.
* Apply operational insight to business case development and new procurement initiatives.
* Provide mentorship and supervisory support to a Contract Manager, encouraging their professional growth.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional commercial acumen and a thorough knowledge of waste and public sector requirements, including:
* Proven ability to manage high-value, complex contracts—preferably within Waste Management or Environmental Services.
* Expertise in negotiation, commercial law, and interpretation of intricate contract provisions.
* Experience in staff management and stakeholder engagement at a senior level.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving, dedication to environmental standards, and a focus on efficiency.
