Shape the Future of Marine Engineering – As a Mechanical Fitter you will assemble and maintain advanced mechanical systems at historic Devonport Royal Dockyard, contributing to the readiness of the Royal Navy’s fleet. You will work in a safety‑critical, dynamic environment and collaborate with expert teams to accelerate your career development.
What you’ll do
* Installing, aligning, and assembling mechanical components to precise tolerances.
* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Operating workshop machinery and specialised tools.
* Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
* Conducting functional tests, leak detection, and pressure testing.
What you’ll need
* Proficient in the maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic, rotating, and static mechanical systems with a marine, nuclear, heavy mechanical, or industrial environment.
* Proficient in laser alignment, vibration analysis, and system commissioning/decommissioning.
* Self‑driven with a strong commitment to career development and continuous improvement.
* Holds a time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering/Fitting.
* Experienced in mentoring apprentices and sharing technical knowledge with peers.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment. You must also achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance.
