We are Seeking a Chief Science Officer for a new climate-tech and aquaculture company www.bigkelp.com
We will be growing red algae varieties in tanks on land to make in to supplements for ruminant livestock thereby reducing their methane emissions by 90%+.
We will also be growing specialised racks of Giant Kelp in the ocean in various scenarios including offshore and fringing giant salmon farms. This is in part a carbon capture play (30x more effective than forest per acre). But much of the science teams role will be to explore novel products from harvesting the fastest growing organism on the planet. Including but not limited to bio-degradable plastic replacements, organic fertilizer, livestock feed, clothes, fibres as well as expanding existing markets for food and pharmaceutical grade alginates.
A successful candidate could be a chemist, bio-chemist or marine scientist with an advanced degree and a flair for leadership and team building. Direct experience with farming or researching macro-algae and/or Rhondophyta is desirable.
Also desirable is experience in nursery cultivation from spore to maturity for these species throughout spore germination, gametophyte growth, fertilization, and juvenile sporophyte development.
There will be travel and adventures but the head office is in London. Its a department head role with a good degree of autonomy, Reporting directly to the CEO.
